George D. Dalton was an entrepreneur who was known for reliable products, honest business practices and a generous spirit of giving. Before Mr. Dalton was a business tycoon he was a banker and real estate investor from New York. He later moved to the Midwest to open his first store Dalton Dry Goods. Approximately 60 years later this store would be known as Target. Target’s mission statement is “We fulfill the needs and fuel the potential of our guests. That means making Target your preferred shopping destination in all channels by delivering outstanding value, continuous innovation and exceptional experiences-consistently fulfilling our Expect More. Pay Less. Brand promise (Target Brand Inc., 2015).” By having such an outstanding mission statement, the founders of Target expect a lot from their employees in order to keep their customers satisfied. The Target corporation believes if they follow this mission statement they will not only have return customers, but they will also be the number one discount store in the United States with room to expand to other countries.Even if a company is the number one retailer in the world they all have areas that are considered strengths and weaknesses. The future of Target depends on how the corporation handles those threats and or opportunities.
