1. Theory as Is Related to Presenting Problem. An Existential-Humanistic theory aligned with the CREAR-CE model approach will be used to argue to formulated the case of Sonny. In addition, a Person-Centered approach is used to initiate therapeutic rapport with Sonny. Regarding the Person-Centered approach three basic principles of the approach were followed: 1. The therapist is congruent with the client, 2. The therapist provides the client with unconditional positive regard and 3. The therapist shows empathic understanding to the client (Rogers, 1946). Furthermore, because of the fluidity between reality and delusion in his historical self-report during the interview with Sonny, the Person-centered approach of “the client knows best” was used to allow indebt understanding of Sonny’s goals and values. The undertaking of guiding Sonny in the achievement of his goal independence and meaningful relationships is conceptualized as freedom and destiny. Freedom being the capacity of choice and destiny as the natural and self-imposed limits that Sonny experiences (Schneider & Krug, 2010).
In addition, the use of the Culturally Responsive and Racially Conscious Ecosystemic Treatment Approach (CREAR-CE), created by Adames and Chavez-Dueñas, will be argued to be a crucial component to be used in tandem with the Existential-Humanistic approach in therapy to create the appropriate orientation for Sonny.
