Throughout the United States America, Indians, and Alaskan Natives face many challenges and health disparities. Health disparities facing these populations have not showed large improvements due to the lack of research and data on the healthcare of this population. Literature throughout this grant proposal will make it evident that knowledge and geographical location predisposes this population to healthcare deficits. A Telemedicine grant will help to address challenges within the American Native and Alaskan Native communities and can play a significant role in the early intervention in preventing disease and maintaining healthy lifestyles. Not only will this grant provide healthcare to this underserved population, but will provide data for continual advancement and education to the American Indians and Alaskan Natives.

Existing Issues with the Current Indian Health Service
Throughout the United States of American, there are five hundred and sixty- five federally recognized American Indian and Alaska Native Tribes, all of which utilize the Indian Health Service program. Although this program provides healthcare to 2.2 million American Indians and Alaskan Natives there is still an estimated 1.5 million qualified people who do not have access to the current system in place. Lower health status has been a common theme throughout the years for American Indians and Alaskan Natives.
