It separated the government into three branches and a system of checks and balances to go along with it to make sure that no branch gained too much power. The document reads, “We the People of United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” This shows the people defending their rights and basing their laws on their needs as citizens.
