WikiLeaks is a nonprofit website that publishes classified information about the government. Julian Assange along with others established WikiLeaks and travelled around the world collecting information for the website. It wasn’t until Assange met Private Manning did WikiLeaks get a lot of attention. Private Manning provided the Collateral murder video, Afghanistan war logs, Iraq war logs, and the quarter of a million diplomatic cables and Guantanamo files.
After WikiLeaks released Manning’s material, U.S. authorities began investigating WikiLeaks and Assange. They tried to prosecute him them under the Espionage Act of 1917. Court documents published in May 2014 suggest that Assange was still under active and ongoing investigation at that time. I feel that the government is handling the situation wrong. The government is afraid to be shown in a bad light and they will do anything to save their names. Julian Assange is being under trial for violating the Espionage Act of 1917.
