Even though this product design allows for this form of user benefit in theory, it does not seem to manifest in reality. Since humans often times struggle to interpret a dog's future actions or desires, dog owners who utilize a retractable leash struggle to perform even the simple task of walking their dog. Due to the design of retractable leashes, this product can often times get caught around trees, obstacles on the street, or the legs of an innocent bystander. In addition, the unpredictable nature at which a blind dog owner decides to increase or decrease the walking distance of their dog can cause unexpected trauma to the neck region of their service animal. The product design delegates the physical burden of a traditional leash to the dog rather than its owner. This aspect of the product can be seen as both a positive and a negative. Although blind individuals will benefit from the relieved stress on their body, their service dog counterpart will always have the responsibility of carrying a heavy, oftentimes metal, device strapped to their back. This can cause health problems for the dog, and due to the diminished supply of service dogs and the difficulty of training new service dogs, it is not advantageous to potentially decrease or limit the lifespan of a service
