“No, no, please, please, don’t hit me, please? The sounds of screams and fear because there is an abusive father who’s taking his anger out on a little boy who’s 5 years old. Abuse is a silent killer. Those who endure such teacher and stay quiet, keep the abuser quiet. Children and their family can better understand what abuse is, how common it is for children to experience it, the effects of abuse, the kinds of behaviors that demonstrate may be demonstrated in children who experience abuse and the intervention programs available to help tackle abuse.
Abuse is a world-wide issue that affects our children every day. According to a World Health Organization report (WHO, 1999), it stated that child abuse “constitutes all forms of physical and/or emotional ill-treatment, sexual abuse, neglect or negligent treatment or commercial or other exploitation, resulting in actual or potential harm to the child’s health, survival, development or dignity in the context of a relationship of responsibility, trust or power” (Green et al, 2003, p. 78). Physical abuse is caused when there is an injury to the body, emotional abuse is ignoring a child’s emotional needs, ignoring or humiliating the child, neglect is not providing the child with adequate essentials such as food, shelter or clothing and sexual abuse is performing sexual acts with a child. “Every ten seconds a child abuse report is made and every year more than 3.6 million referrals are made to child protection agencies involving…
