My paper is about Abraham Lincoln, he was the sixteenth president of the United States. Lincoln was born on a farm in Kentucky in 1809. During his childhood, his family moved to Indiana and then to Illinois, while during this moving he worked on farms, in stores, and he studied law as an apprentice. Lincoln was very successful as a politician and a wartime leader because of his strong abilities as a writer and his powerful rhetoric. Lincoln’s political career started with him serving as a legislature in Illinois and then moved on to the U.S. House of representatives. With these two positions he gained a national reputation which earned him the Republican vote in the 1860 presidential election. Lincoln had all eighteen free states votes but failed to receive any votes in the fourteen slave states. The Civil War began shortly after his inauguration in 1861and ended a few days prior to his assassination in 1865. President Lincoln gave two of the most famous speeches in American history, he had a mission to preserve the Union end slavery in the United States, he believed that all men were created equal and that’s how people should be treated. From July 1-3, in 1863, one of the bloodiest and most decisive battles of the Civil War was being fought in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Roughly ninety thousand Union troops fought against the invading army of more than seventy thousand which was led by Robert E Lee.
