In recent days, several church members have asked me about what we Christians can say about the debate opened several years ago, of the same-sex marriage. Why is it not tried in the Bible? That question, motivated me to make this small study
We read in the Scriptures that marriage is an honorable estate instituted by God and sanctified by the presence of our Lord Jesus at the wedding at Cana in Galilee. In the Scriptures the Holy Spirit consecrates marriage as the symbol of the mystical union between Christ and His Church (Ephesians 5.21-33). Therefore, you must contract it with reverence and fear of God. Marriage was ordained by God to be the sacred institution of the family, which is the university where the product of this nuptial blessing, the children, will learn the value of life and the value of parenting by the example given by this couple, as parents of them. That is why God has honored marriage, honor the couple with the enormous responsibility of being called husband and wife, and then father and mother.
Sin and its enormous consequences, have distorted the concept of "home" established by God in instituting marriage between a man and a woman. So in many cases it has ceased to be the university of life where our children learn the sacred duty of being a parent causing confusion and the household dysfunction known in the world today.
