Another type of early childhood programs is the for-profit learning and childcare center. A for–profit learning center program is a business, owned by one or more individuals, that provide a service for fees with a goal of realizing a financial profit. All facility, staff, equipment, supply, and service costs are the responsibility of the owner. The observation and interview for this report was conducted at the Little Characters learning center that is located at 3220 Ligarde St. in Laredo, Texas. This learning center is a privately owned, for-profit early childhood learning center and is licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Therefore it is subject to the minimum standards guidelines as mandated by the state of Texas. This learning center serves children ages, 0 to 8 years of age. The students are placed in groups or classes based on ages, such as infants (birth to twelve months), toddlers (12 months to 24cmonths), three-year-old class and the four-year-old preschool class. The Little Characters learning center also offers an after school program for children five to eight years of age. This learning center has a set registration fee of 35 dollars per child, and the weekly fee varies anywhere from 110 dollars to 90 dollars per week depending on the age of the child and if the child is attending part-time or full-time.
