In the book 1984 George Orwell predicted the privacy issues that Americans face today, with his concerns that the government is keeping an eye on the public, whether this was through a Telescreen in the novel or modern day televisions and Iphones. The telescreens used in the book 1984 were always on no matter where the owner was. At the grocery store or at work it was always on. The citizens still watched the telescreen like an actual T.V. but the thought police took it was too far in 1984. Some of the problems faced in the book are similar to things that happen in today's society. For an example, Children abductions are severely increasing year after year due to privacy issues.
One quote from the book 1984 that stood out to me was this one"The telescreen received and transmitted simultaneously. Any sound Winston made, above the level of a very low whisper, would be picked up by it; moreover, so long as he remained within the field of vision which the metal plaque commanded, he could be seen as well as heard.”

Privacy started being an issue around the 1890’s. On December 15,1890 Samuel Warren and Louis Brandeis had published an article on “The right to privacy” which was considered one of the most greatest article in the American History Law. A man named Richard Posner said that “ Privacy is the right of people to conceal information about themselves that others might us to their disadvantage.” What Posner said is completely true. If someone were to try to get someone in trouble with the law they could easily find private information about them and tell the police. Most jobs tap into privacy in the people applying for jobs to see who their friends with, their pictures and friends. Most people don’t get jobs because of having their privacy
