When and why did America enter the War?
|
America entered the War in 1941 because of two reasons:
A) Japan Bombed Pearl Harbor B) Germany declared war on United States |

What was happening in Europe before America entered the War?
|
Hitler was taking over Europe by invading Poland and demanding the Sudetenland. There were also skirmishes going on in Spain and Italy.

|
Italian dictator who began a new political party of Fascism.

|
Russian dictator after the Russian Revolution of 1917

Who was Winston Churchill?
|
English Prime Minster. Friend of FDR and against fascism. Wanted US to help aid in the fight against Germany and Japan!

Who was Franklin Roosevelt (FDR)?
|
President of United States from 1933-1945. Won 4 elections but died of polio while serving his 4th term. Carried the country through the Great Depression and almost through World War II. Ended up having America go to War.

What are Victory Gardens?
|
People grew their own vegetables so the vegetables grown by farmers could be used for the War effort.

What is rationing?
|
The amount of goods was regulated for consumers so they could share in the war sacrifices. This helped prevent public anger because of food shortages.

What are War Bonds?
|
Fundraiser for the war. It encouraged people to join the war effort and support their troops by buying war bonds.

What is Fascism?
|
Form of radical authoritarian nationalism. Total dictatorship. Italy and Mussolini

What was the Lend-Lease Act?
|
America would sell, lease, or lend war materials to anyone who the President thought was good enough.

What was the Office of War Information?
|
In charge of propaganda production to give citizens information on the war through movies and radio. It required movie people to contribute money to the war.

What happened to the Japanese Americans during WWII?
|
They were sent to interment camps so they could not help Japan. Executive order 9066.

|
He led the first American army to land in France.

Who was Vernon Baker?
|
1st African American to see combat. Went through traps to single-handedly remove 3 machine gun nests, 2 bunkers, and 2 observation posts. Won Congressional Medal of Honor.

Who was Dwight Eisenhower?
|
General. Invaded by landing at 5 beaches of Normandy, France.

How did American civilians act on their sense of patriotism?
|
They canned, rationed, bought war bonds, worked in factories, volunteered to fight, and gardened victory gardens.

|
Took over after FDR, dropped the atomic bomb.
