Class Project Topic Paper: Truman and the Atomic Bomb
On August 6 and 9, 1945, the President of the United States , Harry S. Truman, ordered the “dropping of atomic bombs” on ‘Hiroshima’ and ‘Nagasaki’ Japan. The Japanese were defeated due to the dropping of the atomic bombs which drastically ended World War II. More than 200,000 people were killed from both of the bombings. Most people that perished were civilians. The dropping of “Little Boy” and “Fat Man” have remained still to this day the only time atomic bombs were used in “war”. In the process of destruction, it saved many American citizens. It was a matter of opinion on whether or not President Truman’s decision was right or wrong. The majority of the Americans and also the Allied forces accepted President Truman’s decision and agreed that this was necessary to stop war quickly before the Japan invasion. If Japan was invaded many American lives would 've been lost.
After the dropping of the atomic bombs , many people started questioning about President Truman’s resolution to drop the bombs. Many people believed that dropping the atomic bombs to destroy two cities of Japan helped America. They also believed that dropping the bombs helped President Truman accomplish several things. Dropping the atomic bombs on the two Japanese towns was a way of Americans to seek revenge on Japanese for Pearl Harbor. The atomic bombing of Japan would explain the costs of the Manhattan Project. President Truman would have accepted serious complications if this expense was not
