Blitzkrieg
"Lightning War" in German. Where a military rapidly conquers other countries around it using fast mobile attacks on land and air.

A U.S. Government organization that directed the work of war needs.
Appeasement
An argument strategy that benefits both sides of the argument, and is very lenient towards the enemy (Munich Agreement)

United Nations
A international peace-keeping organization created as a result of the Yalta Conference.
Yalta Conference
A conference between the "Big Three" (FDR, Churchill, and Stalin). Stalin agreed to declare war on Japan and a peace-keeping organization was founded (UN)
Kristallnacht
A series of coordinated attacks against Jews. German SA troops attacked German and Austrian Jews for no apparent reason, "starting" the Holocaust.
Lend Lease Act
A law from 1941 where the U.S. started to lend, sell, and lease military supplies to other Allied Nations
Neutrality Act
1939-"Cash and Carry"–allowed U.S. to sell weapons to other countries as long as they paid cash and transported them.
Concentration Camps
Camps set up by the Nazis to hold Holocaust victims in harsh conditions and kill them in gas chambers (e.g. Auschwitz)
Internment Camps
Camps located mostly on the West Coast of America to hold Japanese-Americans during WWII to ensure no follow up to the Pearl Harbor Bombing.
Pearl Harbor
On December 7, 1941, Japanese planes bombed the naval base at Pearl Harbor to gain complete domination of the Pacific and expand their empire. After the bombing, America officially entered to war on the Allies.
Holocaust
The Genocide of anti-Nazis, mainly Jewish (6 million). The victims were placed in concentration, death, and work camps. It lasted from the early 1930s to 1945
Bataan Death March
Prisoners on the island of Bataan were forced by Japan to march to a prison camp a long walking distance away. About 22,000 died of the 76,000 that started the march
Island Hopping
Attacking and capturing certain key islands to use as bases for attacking closer islands. The U.S. used this strategy to move closer to Japan.
Battle of Midway
The U.S. navy destroyed four Japanese aircraft carriers and hundreds of airplanes. This was the first major Japanese defeat and the turning point of the war in the Pacific.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Truman ordered the use of the atomic bomb. On 8/5/1945, it was dropped on Hiroshima, leveling the city and killing about 70,000 people. Three days later another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki killing about 40,000 people.
V-J Day
"Victory over Japan" on August 15, 1945.
D-Day
On June 6, 1944, the largest invasion in history took place. Led by Dwight D. Eisenhower, soldiers from America, Canada, and Britain attacked Germany from Normandy and pushed Germany out of France. This started the end of Hitler's reign.

Responses to the Holocaust
There was no proof given to enemies that there were serious concentration camps, and immigration from Nazi Germany controlled areas was not allowed. Hitler sent fake videos of a "fun" children's camp
Hitler's Final Solution
The solution was to eliminate all Jewish influence as much as possible. He made a little worse "degree by degree" in order to eliminate the enemies. When the enemies saw what was going on, it was too late; Hitler was about to kill them.

There were rations, people bought war bonds, and adjusted their daily life to make the war their first priority,
U.S. Government response to Pearl Harbor Bombing
In March of 1942, The first Japanese internment camps were opened. Many were animal sheds and old houses without electricity or running water. This was Exec. Order 9066, and happened because America did not want to risk another attack by the Japanese.
Marshall Plan
A plan approved by the U.S. Congress to help boost the economies of Europe $13 Billion was donated to help get the economy up and running
Nuremberg Trials
Trials held against the Nazi Leaders. Most were guilty and 12/19 were sentenced to death
The Legacy of WWII
The UN was created, the Jewish population was decreased, Israel was founded (sort of a result), 20 Million killed while Millions were wounded, G.I. Bill of Rights (educational and economical help to vets)
