It was a council of wealthy and powerful Romans that advised the city's leaders. The leaders ruled till they died. Had 300 members.

To elect magistrates.

Officials. They were able to veto. Each official remained in office for 1 year.

They had to attend Assembly meetings and vote in elections.

methods to balance power. stopped any ruler from becoming really powerful.

Rome's meeting place. People went their to chat,shop, gossip, and learned government and religion.

Why did Romans want their laws written down?
because before only the patricians saw them and even if somebody did something wrong but they did not know it was against the law they would still get in trouble.

The Gauls and then Rome had to pay them several amount of gold for them to leave.
Did the Romans fight back at the Gauls?
Yes. They won because of their great army set in legions (a group of up to 6000 soldiers). That way they can fight in one big group or several small ones.
