The respiratory systems major functions |
• To supply sufficient amounts of oxygen to meet the the tissue demands of the body • To eliminate any waste product (CO2) Carbon dioxide is a gas produced during the consumption of oxygen
|
What it does for the body. |

Structure and function of the lungs |
We have 2 lungs sitting superior to the diaphragm located in the central thoracic region. Left lung: 2 lobes Right lung: 3 lobes Each lung is surrounded with pleural membrane, and filled with pleural fluid. Providing them with sufficient space to expand and regulating pressure. Saturated with 30 million alveoli and blood vessels which interact to pass gasses in and out of tissues. FUNCTION: THE PRIMARY FUNCTION OF THE LUNGS IS TO PROVIDE A CONTINUOUS FLOW OF OXYGEN INTO BODILY TISSUES |
What they’re made from and how they work. |

Passage of air |
During a breath (inspired air) enters the body via the nose and naval cavity |
