Linking Verbs (VL) |
link the NP:Subject on the left side of the verb and a Predicate form on the right side of the verb in declarative sentences. Transitive Verbs (VT) |
require a NP functioning as a direct object (DO) on the right side of the verb in statements; otherwise, their meaning is incomplete. They CREATED AN EMPIRE. The parents ARE BUILDING A NEW PLAYGROUND. I RECOGNIZED HIM. |

Vg Verbs ("give") |
they require an NP:DO They require an indirect object (IO). For this reason, they are also called ditransitive verbs. I gave my brother the picture. I have the picture to my brother. |

Vc Verbs |
