why are some countries wealthier than others? (physical and human causes)
HUMAN:- War, Status of Women, Debt, Good education, Large population, corrupt government, Good healthcare.
PHYSICAL:- Natural resources, natural disasters, extreme climates, Relief and environmental difficulties.
Explain why some countries are more developed than others. (5)
If an education is better in one country than another, this increases development as they have a more skilled workforce, meaning they can get a good job and can earn more money, which can be spent /used in the country. Good healthcare increases development of a country as it allows people to more likely get better and be able to work earning money which is then gained by the government from taxes/spending money. Some countries are less developed than other countries due to natural diasters e.g. hurricane. Money in the country will be used for emergency services instead of being used to improve things which would increase development e.g. healthcare. ETC ETC ETC
What are some problems of single indicators?(8)
1.GNP is an average which disguises variation. A few immensely wealthy families will increases a country's GNP, when the majority of people may be living in poverty. e.g. Kuwait.
3.Some areas of the country may be wealthier than other parts which would be masked in an average.
4.Urban areas are often better off than rural areas. This would again be masked in an average.
5. Money being made illegally will not be accounted for in this average. e.g. drug money.
6. GNP does not include 'barter economies' where no money is transferred.
7. Indicators e.g. literacy may be misleading as many countries don't allow women to have equal rights, not allowing them to be educated, making figures lower.
8. Certain indicators e.g. TVs per household are perhaps irrelevant to the real quality of life in poorer counties.
Why are certain indicators more accurate?
Combining indication on health, education and wealth create a more balanced view of development.
