Life expectancy –

the number of years new-born children would be expected to live subject to current conditions prevailing. It measures the quantity of life rather than the quality of life.

Healthy life expectancy –

As part of the overall measure of life expectancy, the World Health Organisation often refer to healthy life expectancy as a measure of the number of years that people can expect to live without a significant reduction in their quality of life as a result of illhealth. This is a measure of both the quantity of life and the quality of life.

Morbidity rates –

Incidence –
|
the number of new cases of a disease or illness that occur within a given period of time. This provides an indication of whether a disease or illness is increasing or decreasing.

the number of children who die before their first birthday, expressed per 100,000 infants.

Burden of disease –
|
combination of premature mortality and the level of disability arising from a disease, injury or illness. Information on the burden of disease helps identify health priorities and targets for preventive action.

Disability adjusted life years (DALYs) –
|
the years of healthy life lost through early or premature death or through living in poor health or with disability as a result of illness or injury.
