stroma
Semifluid matrix between the thylakoid membrane and outer membrane of a chloroplast
Thylakoids kind of look like air pumps, stroma is basically the liquid between all the sets of thylakoids. The thylakoids are linked together like bike chain circles with stroma liquid in the middle
Thylakoid membrane.
Accor Plast highly folded inner membrane system. runs a continuous compartment in the stroma
bicycle chain circles with stroma inside

Theodore Engelmann
in 1882 this part in this design an experiment to test his hypothesis that the color of light affects the rate of photosynthesis.
old botanist thats is dead they had figured out the color light affects the rate of what?
Engelmann's experiment
Directed light through a prism so that the bands of colors crossed a water droplet on a microscope slide. he knew that photosynthesis produced oxygen. The amount of the oxygen produced is how he figured out how much photosynthesis took place.
He used a prism to divide a ray of light into its component colors, then directed the resulting spectrum across a single strand of Cladophora, a photosynthetic algae that was suspended in a drop of water.
Results of Engelmann Experiment
The water held a strand of Chladophora and oxygen requiring bacteria. The bacteria clustered around algal cells that we're releasing the most oxygen. - The ones that were most actively engaged in photosynthesis.
2nd results of Engelmann experiment
Engelmann found out that red and purple lights are the best for driving photosynthesis in these cells
what two colors did this happen best in?
light dependent reactions extras
it turns ADP and NADP+ and water energy into ATP and NADPH and oxygen
Happens in the first stage and is carried out by molecules embedded in the Thylakoid membrane. ooh!
light independent reactions extras
starts with ATP, NADPH, carbon dioxide, and water. Creates ADP, NADP+ and glucose.
aka Calvin-Benson cycle. also known as the second stage of photosynthesis!
