Interested in the psychological reasons for why things happen. Skeptical (Father of political realism), points out unreliable sources in his work. His work stops mid-sentence, 8 books in.
Xenophon
General and a writer. His works include political and military studies, works about life and the teachings of Socrates and a history of Greece. Piicks up where Thucydides "History" breaks off and covers the end of the Peloponnesian War and aftermath
Polybius
Wealthy Greek aristocrat and politician.
Banished from Greece and lived in Rome as a slave, worked as a tutor. Wrote an "apology", his statement in Greek for Greeks about history of Rome and why they deserved to conquer Greeks.
Flavius Josephus
Jew who was educated in the Rabbinical tradition and sent to Rome as an ambassador. Captured by the Romans.
Caesar
Very successful general and Roman politician. Wrote of himself in third person to glorify his achievements and justify his actions to make him acceptable to the Roman people.
Sallust
Roman senator and supporter of Caesar. Wrote about moral and ethical decline of Rome.
Livy
First full time historian, not involved in military or political life. 142 books.

Senator and lawyer; books on civil war
