What is the mesoderm?

It is the middle layer of the body, containing muscles, circulatory system, skeleton and supportive tissue, and dermis (inner skin layer)

What is endoderm?

Endoderm is inside layer of your body, specifically the liver, pancreas, digestive track, thyroid, and your thyroid glands, lungs, and trachea.

What is the ectoderm?

Ectoderm is the outer layer of your body specifically the nervous system, your epidermis and skin, tooth enamel, your eyes.

What is the Epithelial tissue?

The epithelial tissue lines the surface of the body.

What is muscle tissue made up of?

Muscle tissue is made up of fibres that contract. There is smooth muscle tissue which is found in the digestive track, cardiac muscle tissue which is found in the heart, and the skeletal muscle tissue which is found in the bones.

What is the connective tissue and what is it’s function?

The function of the connective tissue is to hold your body parts together. It is made up of loose connective tissue which helps cushion organs, and the Adipose tissues that provide padding and reduces heat loss.

What are the three types of neurons

Unipolar, Bipolar, and multipolar

How does a vertebrate develop (embryonic)?

1. Begins as a zygote

2. Goes through gastrulization with the help of he ovum

3. Begins to differentiate (endoderm, mesoderm, ectoderm)

4. Begins to specialize (epithelial, muscular, skeletal, and connective)

What is the cell wall and is it found in plants, animals, or both?

The cell wall keeps the cell protected, and maintains structure it is found in Plant cells.

What are lysosomes and is it found in plants, animals, or both.

The lysosomes break down foods and cells when they die (digests them) and it is found in plants and animals.

What are centrioles and are they found in plants, animals, or both.

The centrioles help the separation of chromosomes in mitosis only found in animal cells.

What is the nuclear membrane and is it found in plant, animals, or both.

It closes off the nucleus and is doing in plant and animal cells.

What are the vacuoles and are they found in plants, animals, or both.

They are used to contain cellular waste and they isolate materials that may be harmful. They are found in plant cells.

What is the cytosol and is it found in plants, animals, or both.

Assists with chemical reactions in the cell it is found in plant and animal cells

What is the cytoskeleton and is it found in plants, animals, or both.

It gives the cell its shape, and offers support it is found in plants and animals

What is the Golgi apparatus and is it found in plants, animals, or both.

Sorts proteins, packs proteins, transports liquids, creates lysosomes it is found in plant and animal cells

What is the peroxisome and is it found in plants, animals, or both.

Breaks down fatty acids, forms membranes and fuel for respiration, transfers hydrogen peroxide and converts it to water. It is found in plant and animal cells.

What is the cytoplasm and is it found in plants, animals, or both.

Jelly like fluid that fills the cell. Found in plants and animals.

What is the nucleus and is it found in plants, animals, or both.

Contains genetic material, creates chromosomes using proteins and DNA strands. Found in plants and animal cells (eukaryotes)

What is the mitochondria and is it found in plants, animals, or both.

Produces energy for the cell through respiration, regulates cell cellular metabolism. Found in plant and animals.

What is the ribosomes and is it found in plants, animals, or both.

Cell structure that makes proteins from all amino acids. Found in plant and animal cells.

What is the endoplasmic reticulum and is it found in plants, animals, or both.

The endoplasmic reticulum world with the Golgi apparatus to transport proteins, and the cisterns sacs folds the proteins, and is found in plants and animals.

What is the cell membrane and is it found in plants, animals, or both.

The cell membrane gives cells their structure, and regulates materials that enter and exit the cell. They are found in plant and animal cells.

What are chloroplasts and are they found in plants, animals, or both.

Chloroplasts concert light energy from the sun to sugars, and it uses chlorophyll which allows photosynthesis to occur. They are only found in plant cells.

What are the stages of mitosis?

Prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase.

What happens during prophase?

-DNA condensed and becomes shorter and thicker making chromosomes

-The nuclear membrane begins to dissolve

- Releasing chromosomes into cytoplasm

What happens during Metaphase?

-The chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell

-The nuclear membrane dissolved

What happens during anaphase?

-Chromosomes split into 2 identical strands

-Pulled towards the ends of the cell

What happens during telophase

-Chromosomes go to opposite ends

-New membranes are formed

What are the parts of the respiratory system

Nasal cavity -> pharynx (throat) -> mouth -> epiglottis -> thyroid cartilage -> Trachea (windpipe) -> bronchial tube -> left lung -> right lung -> pleura -> bronchioles (small airways) -> alveoli (air sacs)
