MMPA

Lists endangered marine species. Bans hunting, capturing, displaying, and selling protected species. Bans whaling in U.S. waters.

ESA

CITES

Lists endangered species that cannot be traded internationally. Bans hunting, capturing, displaying, and selling protected, threatened, or endangered species.

Safe Drinking Water Act

Sets maximum contaminent levels for pollutants that may have adverse effects on human health. Protects surface waters and aquifers (groundwater)

Clean Water Act

Regulates and enforces all discharge into water sources and wetland destruction/construction to make all surface waters swimmable and fishable.

Ocean/London Dumping Act

Bans ocean dumping of sewage sludge and industiral waste into oceans.

Montreal Protocol

Phases out the use of ozone, ozone producing gases, and ozone destroying chemicals.

Clean Air Act

Requires the testing and reductions of all emissions from businesses, manufacturing, transportation vehicles, and individuals.

SMCRA

All surface mining operations are required to plan and carry out reclamation when mines are no longer in use.

Antiquities Act

Sets aside money for national parks, forests, and rangeland. Protects historic and prehistoric ruins/monuments from harm.

Lacey Act

A law prohibiting the transportation of illegially captured or prohibited animals and plants across state lines.

CERCLA

A fund for the emergency response and cleanup of hazardous waste sites. Parties responsible pay for clean-up or superfund pays when a responsible party cannot be found.

RCRA

Regulates hazardous waste and non-hazardous solid waste. All hazardous waste must be accounted for from creation to disposal or final storage.
