Who was the First man to study Anatomy

Hippocrates

Where was Anatomy first studied in history

Ancient Egypt

How many systems are in the body

11 systems

What are the 11 systems of the body

Integumentary system(skin,Nails,hair)

skeletal system /Digestive system

Muscular system /Urinary System

Nervous system/ Reproduction system

Endocrine system

Cardiovascular system

Lymphatic system

Respiratory system

What is Cytolgy?

Study of Cells

what is Histology?

Study of the tissues

What is developmental Anatomy

change in body over time from conception till death

how many cells are in the human body

60 -100 trillion cells

What are tissues

Groups of cells that are alike and work together

What are organs made up of

tissues that are working together

Organ systems are made up of

Organs that work together

(such as digestive system)

Homeostasis

balance in the body. is vital to maintain life

What are the "Characteristics of life"?

*Boundries between organism and enviornment

*Movement

*Responsiveness (detect changes)

*Digestion

*Metabolism

*Excretion

*Repoduction

*Growth

What is Mechanical Digestion?

Mastication/Chewing or Peristalisis

What is Chemical Digestion?

Saliva/stomach acids

What are the two types of reproduction?

Cellular reproduction

Organisimal reproduction

What is cellular reproduction

When our cells die then they are reproduced and replaced. Mitosis

What is organisimal reproduction?

When we are reproducing offspring Miosis

What is growth

Increase of the # of cells and size

What is a receptor

A senser that respondes to change-Afferant pathway. ALWAYS goes towards the control center.

What is the control center

Determines the setpoint, receives the inform.from the receptor.

what is the effector

recieves signals from the control center. Provides means fro responce to the stimuli. always on effertent pathway away from control center.

What is negative feedback?

always moves to change direction of the stimulus. More common in body/stimulus stops to return to homeostasis

what is positive feedback?

stimulus increases- such as uterus contracts to give childbirth. not as common in body

Anatomical position

standing erect with palms facing forward

Axil

main axis of body, skull, neck, trunk

Appendicular

Limbs + girdles that connect

Sagitall

left to right (parasagittal)
