Kindergarten Listening Standards

I reviewed the speaking and listening standard for kindergarten. I think that the standard’s expectations of this grade level are on par for what kindergartners should be able to accomplish by the end of the school year. However, I am not sure that the standards are not unrealistic when relating it to the ability of the teacher get students to fully develop these skills. While student are fully capable of reaching the end result of the standard, teachers have to have the time to incorporate these skills into their instruction. With the amount of information that must be taught it, it will take a skilled teacher to strategically incorporate these skills into aspects of their daily lessons. Listening skills must develop in a sequential pattern as well starting with the learning to listen sounds in isolation and gradually working to larger sets. The AVT should provide feedback to the parents to support and encourage them Building and developing the child’s skills each week and expanding on language learned through hearing will help the child’s confidence in listening to increase. I learned a lot from this OIR that will affect my future teaching career hopefully in a better approach. I learned that some children develop slower than others and some develop quicker. All children achieve milestones at different times in their lives. Seeing that some children need a little extra help (guidance in independence and taking responsibility) and some children don’t, show that when I’m a teacher, I’m going to have to accommodate to these children’s needs as much as possible. I also learned that some children need more time than others to develop.…

Meanwhile, children are given full responsibility for their case. By the same token, these juveniles must decide what to tell the police and defense attorneys. Juveniles must decide whether or not to follow the attorney's instructions, to testify, supply information regarding the prosecution, and whether to proceed to trial or plea bargain. Most children would not understand what to prepare or how to respond in such situation, let alone be able to comprehend the legal responsibilities. In extremely rare cases do courts consider whether children lack the maturity or development to stand trial due to their age.…

When you are working with groups of children, you may find it difficult to balance the needs of individuals with those of the group. This will be because often children seem to require different levels of attention. Some children may be able to work and organise themselves independently, where as others need the reassurance of an adult. You need to arrange the position of different children in the group, as well as your own, so that you are able to give this reassurance at all times, just be physical nearness. You encourage children to work and make decisions for themselves, they will not need as much adult support and will give more confidence.…

Language plays an important role in a child’s intellectual, emotional and social development. Language can be both seen and heard. Language is a guide to social reality (Sapir, 1949). For example, body language, sign language and the social convention about how to combine words, express and connect ideas to interact with other people. All language including written, visual and spoken developed from cultural and social contexts and understood in people's social and cultural background (Green, 2006, p.2).…

SEP #4 In my observation of a Kindergarten class, there were many different teaching methods used. The teacher used many visual aids, and example would be when she asked the students to draw a pig. She displayed a pig on the board that was drawn by a guest speaker, and the students were asked to replicate the drawing. The teacher I observed also used games to enhance the student’s learning.…
