After reading the rhetorical analysis, Essay about the Coca-Cola commercial, "Anthem" I gave the student a B. In my opinion, the student exhibited her ability to adhere to the guidelines of the assignment. The essay was effective at showcasing a commercial created within the past 3 years, identifying the year aired, reaching her intended target audience (high school students), as well as, ensuring that the commercial was within the acceptable time limitation of 30-60 seconds. For those reasons, I gave the student a full 20 in the criteria for genre/audience. Concerning the criteria for focus, I gave the student 16/20 because I feel that the student was effective in maintaining the main idea of the essay, however, did not maintain the stance of each paragraph. For example, the paragraph meant to touch base on the influence of American culture provided examples of elements within the American culture such as sharing stories, sharing smiles, sharing exciting parts of life but did not elaborate on what makes them unique and influential in American society.…
Hi Ra, I agree with you that the big corporations are trying to influence our mind with their catchy slogans to attract us to their products, and they are also trying to make us think that by purchasing their products we are standing out. Individuality was not the important one in the past, but it is an important element nowadays in our society. Some businesses started trying to represent the idea of rebellion in the past through advertisements, for example, being different is good or encouraging break the rules, and it continues till the present, such as the ads of Vision Cologne and Hugo Boss as you mention. Even though promoting conformity worked for American in the past, many people do not want to be the same as how they did in the past,…
Nike was founded in late 1960s and since it has been the leading sport selling product in America with its slogan “just do it”. Nike has thousands of advertisement, but this one stands out to me. To me it represent that Nike does not only make one pair of shoes for specific sport, but for all of them. The advertisement is trying to show consumers how yes, their product maybe expensive, but you will not only be using it for one sport or hobby. Sports is a big thing in the american culture, but to play a sport you need the equipment.…
“White lips, pale face/Breathing in snowflakes.” “The A Team” is a popular song that sends a powerful message about social issues like, homelessness, substance abuse, and even prostitution. The song was released in June 2011 by singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran, from the United Kingdom. The music video accompanying the song, directed and filmed by Ruskin Kyle, closely depicts the song’s lyrics by showing several scenes about the subject the “Angel.” The video shows her struggles, despite the melo-like beat as the background of the song, as a drug tightens its control on her.…
At this time the dreamer listens as the group members work with the dream as their own and generate projections for whatever feelings the dream imagery has evoked within them. (Stage 2A) The group offers whatever metaphorical meaning they perceive in the dream imagery (Stage 2B) (Ullman, 2006). “The Game” At this point the group can offer projections on to the dream (first it offers feelings, then metaphors), using an attitude of “If this were my dream” During this stage of the game, group members may offer any projections that occur to them.…
This commercial actually targets one of Jib Fowles’ advertising appeals which is the need to achieve (Fowles, n.d.). The amount of women in the workforce is growing, and as time passes women are accomplishing more and more. COVERGIRL knows this, and so they use the message of empowerment to make their target audience feel more supported, thus fueling the viewer’s need to achieve. The verbal as well as nonverbal language in the commercial supports this. The slogan of the ad is “girls can” and there are women actors flexing their muscles and wearing hockey gear.…
Working Thesis: Bud Light uses elements such as the gestures of men and women, the clothing they are wearing and the diction spoken by the yoga instructor in this commercial to clearly display separate gender roles in this advertisement. While in a stereotypical all women yoga class, men are in the back drinking a Bud Light while watching the women do yoga. Bud Light is using elements of sexism to sell their beer to men around the world. Yoga is usually, but not always, a female lead and female attended class. In this commercial, right off the back at the beginning of the ad, the stereotype of only females attending the class and the class being lead by a female instructor is seen.…
‘Walk a Mile in My Shoes’ Slavery is one of the most important and controversial topics in United States history. A decade after Jamestown’s settlement, slaves appeared in British North America and the landscape of the U.S. would never be the same. Enslaved African-Americans were denied any sort of rights or ownership and were sentenced to a lifetime of labor under a slave master. This prolonged suffering led to Northern Abolitionists campaigning for the freedom of slaves during the years before the civil war. The three abolitionists analyzed in the primary sources utilized empathy and scholarly language in an attempt persuade a discriminatory, non-African-American audience against slavery.…
There is no dialogue in the commercial, but it clearly reaches out to women as models are presented with a runway atmosphere. In the background, electronic or dance music plays…

The ad displays half-naked men standing around a lone woman, who's lying on the ground in a fairly suggestive position. Just like the previous advertisements I analyzed this ad also features very strong sexuality. The two men are completely shirtless and the other two men wearing a shirt with their chest exposed while the women lying down wearing a really short outfit with high-heels. Everyone in the ad body appears to have oil on their skin and it seems as if they have a glistening glow. We are shown a frontal angle of all the men eying this woman lying on the floor.…
