Tyco Corporation

During the course of this paper one will see addressed several issues of responsibilities that the Tyco Corporation must deal with. Some of these issues are ones that they have had to deal with quite recently. The responsibilities that one will see discussed are the legal, social and ethical issues that arise in a company that is nationally known.


Tyco provides products and services across the world. The company is global and diversified providing a variety of products including electronics, healthcare, fire and security services and engineered products and services. While employing over 250,000 people worldwide they grossed approximately $40 billion in revenue in the year 2005.

Consumers will not purchase goods from companies that they believe that they can not trust. With that thought in mind, Ed Breen made the mission of Tyco to meet the highest standards of corporations. He has put in place a corporate culture that is based on the premise that all employees are responsible for the conduct of the company. Tyco is monitored by consultants from Governance Metrics International. The rating in December 2002 was 1.5 out of a score of 10; with Ed Breen serving at the helm of the corporation the Governance Metrics International consultants rated the Tyco Corporation at a 9.0 in August of 2005. Ed Breen has instilled four core values into their mission statements: Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork and Accountability. The Tyco Corporation website shows that the four core values state:
