The roots of Non-for Profit organizations can be traced back all the way to ancient Egypt and Rome. However, their presence is even more important today than in yesteryear. According to the National Center for Charitable Statistics, there are currently 1,514,821 tax-exempt organizations registered with the Internal Revenue Service in the United States. Nonprofit organizations pay a 4% annual excise tax on their annual investment income. All these organizations require funding to continue providing their services or supporting their constituents. Non-for-profit organizations are able to accomplish this in several ways: donations, cash infusions, grants from foundations, corporations, and private entities. Marketing and Advertising
Getting the word out about a nonprofit organization can be a challenging task, particularly since such organizations typically run on tight budgets and depend on donations to keep them afloat. But despite this, when marketing or advertising your organization the goal is to get the companies mission across to everyone you’re trying to reach. There are various ways in which you can market and advertise the organization, you can have Billboard signs, mail out flyers to potential donors, pass out business cards, take out a magazine ad and use social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
When starting a non-profit organization there are always some challenges along the way. Some of the major challenges faced are finding money to accomplish your goal, getting staffing to help ensure the organization is running accordingly, and making sure that the organization is in compliance with the state and federal requirements for the organization. The Biggest challenge many face is getting the word out about their organization and what it is that they do as well as their mission as a non-profit organization.
