"Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn 't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same" by Reagan Ronald. Nowadays, all the people claims for a particular notion, Freedom. Freedom considers as the right of people to determine their own actions without any constraints that represent in rules and powerful men in the society. As the politeness theory can be used in literature, the researcher applies this theory on the concept of freedom. The politeness theory is employed in the English play The Tempest and the Arabic one/ʔldxɑːn/ the Smoke. Both Shakespeare and Roman have applied the theory on their plays, particularly negative face of the threatening act in order to show the importance of liberty for people.
1.2 Objectives
The researcher carries out the present study in order to investigate examples of:
1- negative face to hearer in English play
2- negative face to hearer in Arabic play
3- negative face to speaker in English play
4- negative face to speaker in Arabic play
In order to compare and contrast how people in different cultures ask for independence in their community.
