According to the article “Could Bilingual Education Mold Kids’ Brains to Better Resist Distraction?” written by Mindshift, we are informed that “Researchers now believe that when people learn another language, they develop cognitive advantages that improve their attention, self-control and ability to deal with conflicting information.” (Mindshift, 2014). From this article we learn that more than 100 public schools have now started to make bilingualism a part of their everyday curriculum. When children are exposed to a language they’re not accustomed to the brain retrieves the sounds it hears and attempts to match it with a familiar sound; through bilingualism children learn that there are numerous ways to refer to a certain object, the child is then asked to recoup the identifying label in their correct language.
