Bilingual. That is what I like to consider myself. Growing up I didn’t necessarily have the best bilingual education experience but I did not let that stop me from pursuing my education to become at bilingual educator. I have seen that with the right people and the right tools in the classroom, bilingual education can go a far way. I have seen that being bilingual education has its many benefits that help students be more confident on who they are as a person and who they are culturally. Bilingualism is a huge part of a student’s identity especially if they have grown up in mixed cultures and knows other languages than English. BESO has helped me network and help me grow confidence when it came to networking with scholar professionals at conferences such as NABE. There have been studies that show that first-generation college students have low percentages in school involvement and BESO is definitely helping with making a change in that, by stimulating students to get involved. BESO has helped me get involved around campus which is fairly new for me for the reason that I was never encouraged to do so ever in any other organization I have tried to be part of. With BESO, I have had the great opportunity to volunteer at many National conferences (NABE, National Latino Children’s Literature Conference) at the Ronald McDonald House of Charities and the DoSeum. This has given me the opportunity to help out in the community, as we want to encourage community involvement because as future educators we know it’s important. BESO is a great program that helps guide and lead to employment opportunities, networking, being active in the community, and getting students involved in many things and this organization is just growing and
