Themes of Success Outstanding novels are always the ones with superior development, an interesting plot, and key themes that relate to lives of readers all around the world. Many successful stories have had a complex plot, and overall messages that readers can take with them and apply in their own lives. For example, Harry Potter is a widely successful novel and extremely popular because of its interesting sequence of events, development of characters, and life lessons that are taught. “‘It only put me in Gryffindor,’ said Harry in a defeated voice, ‘because I asked not to go in Slytherin…’ ‘Exactly’ said Dumbledore, beaming once more. ‘Which makes you very different from Tom Riddle. It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.’” (Rowling Book 2 ch.18). People learn from this awesome series that we as humans have agency and can choose for ourselves the paths that we want to follow. Throughout the advancement and improvement of society, our books continue to add these factors to not only entertain readers, but to teach them as well. Racism, justice, morality and ethics are among all of the meaningful themes that Harper Lee portrays in her admirable novel, To Kill A Mockingbird.
