An example of a motif is when the children have competitions to see who can touch The Radley House. Boo Radley is a mystery to all the children. Stories say that he was an insane man that was kept locked up in his house after he stabbed his father in the leg with scissors.‘Jem stamped his foot. ‘ don't you know you're not supposed to even touch the trees over there? You’ll get killed if you do!’ ‘ You touched the house once.’“ (Lee 45). This quote is an important example of childhood innocence in the novel.
