The Finch family includes Atticus, Scout, and Jem and their new friend Dill. Not only do the adults in this story play a big role, but also the children. An example of a motif is when the children have competitions to see who can touch The Radley House. Boo Radley is a mystery to all the children. Stories say that he was an insane man that was kept locked up in his house after he stabbed his father in the leg with scissors.‘Jem stamped his foot. ‘ don't you know you're not supposed to even touch the trees over there? You’ll get killed if you do!’ ‘ You touched the house once.’“ (Lee 45). This quote is an important example of childhood innocence in the novel. It is revealing to the reader how dangerous and scary the kids assume that the house is. Because they are still children they still have that element of still being naive and gullible, they have the right to still think these things about the house and have fun with it. This is why this quote is showing theme of the magic and mystery of …show more content…

The first theme is standing up for what matters to you. The author, Ria Voros, communicates her theme effectively by showing this in the main character as she stands up for what matters to her. An example in the text is when she stood up for james by making posters. It mentioned in the story what poster she was making “I speak to no one, hunch over my computer, type, cut/paste, download and with all the artistic talent I possess, create” (pg.182). This shows that she is standing up for her friend by using her artistic talent to show everyone that James was something to her.…

To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee has many significant themes. There are uplifting Biblical themes in the book that can help us in our spiritual walk with God. Two Biblical themes in To Kill a Mockingbird that stood out to me are courage and empathy. After Mrs. Dubose’s death, Atticus defines courage as “when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what.…

Motif is used because it is a reoccurring scene. Boo is a symbol of a mockingbird and foreshadowing is used because when Jem and Scout were cold he gave them a blanket without them noticing because he did not want them to freeze. Imagery is used to describe Boo and characterization is the way that the author describes Boo to make him seem more realistic to the reader. In one scene Boo saves Jem and Scout. This scene is when Scout and Jem are walking home in the dark and they are being attacked “From somewhere nearby came scuffling, kicking sounds, sounds of shoes and flesh scraping dirt and roots.”…

For example, Atticus says in the story, “‘Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try to win’" (108). Lee supports the theme of morality through diction because of the words “licked” and “try’”. Specifically, these words show that Atticus decided it was wrong not to try his…

When Boo Radley was a young man he hung with the wrong crowd and ended up getting in trouble with the law, which lead to him being locked in his parents house for over 15 years. As the years ticked by and no one had seen Boo a sufficient amount of rumors were spread in regards to him and what he did with his time. If someone’s azaleas froze it was because he breathed on them, and any small crimes that occurred in town were his doing.…

One example that shows the exact theme is when Jem and scout are learning to shoot their Air rifles. An example that Harper Lee had is when Atticus said “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens; they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” Throughout the story many people have their innocence killed for no reason.…

When I first read the title To Kill a Mockingbird, I was instantly intrigued. At first I wondered how a novel about a bird could be so interesting. Once I researched the mockingbird and discovered it repeatedly mimicked songs of other birds and sounds of insects, I thought To Kill a Mockingbird could be about ending a tradition or belief about a particular thing. The idea of ending a tradition or belief made sense to me given that the novel was set in the Deep South and the South often has deep rooted traditions and beliefs that go back many generations.…

A child’s mind is like a picture you know what’s on the outside, but you’ll never know what’s in the inside. In “ To Kill A Mockingbird, “ Harper Lee uses conflict and characterization in order to convey the idea that a simple child’s innocence can be shattered from life’s problems, however they still don’t understand what’s going on yet. Harper Lee first uses an external conflict on Mr. Walter Cunningham in a gang to convey her theme. When an outraged mob went to the penitentiary where they were planning on hurting Tom Robinson, they didn’t expect to see that Jen as well as Scout was there too. When Scout saw Cunningham she says to Walter in the most innocent way “ Hey Mr. Walter Cunningham's.…
