The speaker for this years D Min service was the Reverend Dr. Jerry M. Carter. Reverend Carter is the Pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of Morristown, New Jersey. According to the church’s website, he’s been Pastoring the Calvary Baptist church since 1990. On tonight he preached from the book of Luke 10:17-20, using the topic “ A Reason to Rejoice”.
As he built his message, he gave a quick synopsis as to what events had occurred leading up to the mentioned verses. He noted, that Jesus sent out the disciples in groups of two, which was also recorded in Luke 10:1 which reads: “After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.” He pointed out that where ever the Apostles went Jesus would follow. He then, told us what discipleship was all about. He says “Discipleship isn’t about your emotions, but your willingness to obey. Referring to the disciples being sent out. As disciples of Christ we must obey what our Lord instructs us to do, with willingness. I especially think this point that Dr. Carter brought out in his sermon is very important in the life of believers. How can we truly call ourselves Christians if we are not willing to follow Christ. Jesus himself testifies to this sentiment in the book of Matthew 10: 46 “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say” I think we can can surmise from reading Matthew 10:46 that if we do not do that which…
