The On My Environmental Worldview Essay

The beliefs that I have analyzed and taken into account for myself has forced me to finally choose a side on my environmental worldview. Thru the semester I have been struggling to pick a side between biocentric and anthropocentric. I agree with the biocentric worldview because I believe that nature does not simply exist to be consumed by humans, but I disagree that humans are simply one species amongst many. While, I agree with the aspect of the anthropocentric view in which humans were higher in value then other species. I could not choose between them all due one thing. Whether, I saw humans as higher species or just another species with no significance. Nevertheless, I came to a conclusion after reading a book called “Ishmael” and was faced with the truth of what my overall main values were. The truth was that I overall believe the biocentric worldview. When I looked into more detail about how I came to this decision, I sought out to find what truly stimulated my environmental worldview. I narrowed it down to two influences and each one has led me to my overall belief of the biocentric worldview.
The first influence that painted my worldview was my education about human manipulation of the environment, their actions, and the consequences. As I recall during my K-12 school years, I was always fascinated by science and getting my hands dirty doing lab experiences.
