Heathcliff as a young man was rather quiet yet quite respectable to those he encountered. However, certain people tried to keep Heathcliff at the bottom and a rather detestable human being. Most notably at this was Hindley, who had never really took a liking to the strange gypsy child his father brought home after a long journey. After Mr. Earnshaw died Hindley began to put Heathcliff where he thought he belonged, down on the bottom with the servants. However, instead of leaving him there, he proceeded to bind his wounds and carry him up to his room. A very similar instance was seen with Hareton during an argument with Linton Heathcliff. At a point in the argument Linton became so enraged he fainted to the floor and was bleeding from the mouth. Hareton having been a cause of this episode, picked up linton and carried him to his room. These two incidents show that while both Hareton and Heathcliff were quite brute-like in some of their discourse, they still had the heart to assist their
