Nowadays, most people consider health is without having a disease. They are really careful about their health issue; they try to eat healthy food and exercise to keep themselves healthy. According to Kaiser Permante, “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” (Kaiser Permanente). In the book “The Metamorphosis,” Gregor Samsa is a tragedy because he worked so hard to support his family even though he hated his job. One morning when he woke up from a bad dream, he found that he turned to a beetle. After that, he got inhuman treatments from his family. Gregor’s transformation should be a symptom of his overall poor health. Based on the definition of health, Gregor Samsa was considered not healthy in a physical, mental and social well-being ways and his symtoms and treatments were similar to my neighbor who had tuberculosis illness.
First of all, Gregor Samsa was unhealthy because he had poor physical well-being. "Physical well-being is the ability to maintain a healthy body through good nutrition, regular exercise, and by avoiding harmful habit”(Physical Well-Being). Many details from the book “The Metamorphosis” showed that Gregor had poor physical health. Gregor laid in his bed, and he found that he could not turn to his right side which is his preference sleeping position. He felt a lot of pain when he tried to turn to the position (Kafka 2).
