In “The Story of The Flood” it is clearly shown that the gods are quite angry with how horrible the humans they created became and how they behaved on earth. “The uproar of mankind is intolerable and sleep is no longer possible by reason of babel.” In this quote the gods are tired of the chaos the humans have created on earth and cannot tolerate it anymore. The gods then decide to wipe out all of earth but one person and one of each species. This story helps to explain how the ancient people understood natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes etc… They believed that God had the power to create or destroy earth and if they kept the gods happy they would be able to live a peaceful life and if they got the gods angry at them they would have to face the punishment set by the …show more content…
“So we must exercise ourselves in the things which bring happiness, since, if that be present, we have everything, and, if that be absent, all our actions are directed towards attaining it” (Epicurus, Pg. 1). As people started to understand the study of philosophy people began to understand more about the natural world and appreciate it. Epicurus is trying to tell Menoeceus to do things that make him happy because if he has that then you won’t need anything else. And listening to him everyone would be able to live their life in pursuit of happiness for themselves, others and be thankful for the world around
