The very first station I went to was the skin-fold caliper in which my results were 20 mm triceps, 30 mm iliac crest, and 31 mm thigh, for a total of 81mm. With 30.1% of body fat I am classified as having a marginal health risk (Corbin, 306). An average level of body fat for a young women is between 21-32% of their total weight (Grosvenor, 313). If I were to go over 32% I would have increased health risks. Next I measured my waist to hip ratio which was .72 which means I have a lower health risk of obesity than those who have 0.8 and higher (Corbin, 312). My waist circumference was 28.5 inches, and my hip was 39.5 inches. These facts show that my body resembles a pear shape. Due to this my body carries more fat around the hips than the abdominal area. I had never even given my family’s health history a second thought. However, after completing this lab my eyes have become open to exactly where I stand in terms of health and fitness, and to what disease and conditions I have a greater risk of obtaining.
