Mitosis Stage

Humans are constantly having to replenish lost cells in their bodies. They do this complicated task by a process called mitosis, which is part of the cell cycle, and mitosis allows one cell with 46 chromosomes to make an identical cell. The continuity of life from one cell to another is based on the reproduction of cells via cell division, so the concept is important to understand how the human body replaces lost cells.
In order to have a full understanding of mitosis, the whole cell cycle should be understood. The cell cycle consists of four stages: G1, S, G2, and mitosis. G1, S, and G2 are subphases within interphase, and mitosis is a part of mitotic phase. The mitotic phase of the cell occurs immediately after interphase; similarly, the

Once a somatic cell, a living cell such as a liver cell or skin cell, has arrived at prophase, the chromosomes have already been duplicated during interphase. When prophase begins, the nucleus contains two identical sets of DNA, and the loose chromatin begins to form into an X shape that is held together by a centromere, the point on a chromosome that connects to spindle fibers. The chromatin in the shape of an X consists of two halves of DNA, and they are called mitotic chromosomes. After the mitotic chromosomes form, the centrioles move to opposite ends of the cell, and the chromosomes develop kinetochores, an attachment for spindle fibers. This part of prophase is preparing the cell for …show more content…
The chromosomes are then moved around by molecules called motor proteins. Two different proteins then pull the microtubules from one side to the other so that the chromosomes line up right down the middle at the equatorial plane. Once the chromosomes are in the middle, the pull from the proteins results in a split from the chromosomes’ copies. When the split occurs, the cell has arrived at the third phase of mitosis, anaphase.
As the split occurs, the individual chromosomes are dragged to opposite poles of the cell. The separation of the chromosomes is caused by the mitotic spindle. The mitotic spindle is made up of several long proteins called microtubules. This phase ensures that there will be an identical set of chromosomes distributed to each daughter cell. Once anaphase has occurred, the cell proceeds to the final phase of mitosis,

Metaphase I and Anaphase I both take place during meiosis. During Metaphase I a group of four chromatids, called tetrads, straighten at the metaphase plate. The metaphase plate is a plane cell section in the equatorial plane of the metaphase spindle having the chromosomes positioned on it. The centromere attaches itself to a spindle fiber and then the spindle fibers pull the chromatids to the equator of the spindle.…

Inside the ovary there are ovules that contain megasporangium (2n) that produce megasporocytes (2n) that can undergo meiosis to produce four megaspores (n). Only one of the megaspores survives, remaining inside the ovule. Integuments surround the ovule closing off nearly all of the ovule except a small opening, known as the micropyle. The process creates the female gametophyte, the embryo sac, which among other things contains an egg and two polar nuclei. Wind or pollinators causes the pollen grain to land on the stigma where it forms the pollen tube which allows the two sperm to travel into the embryo sac.…

Mitosis: I take the two identical sister chromatids in each chromosome and divide them to form two new cells with one chromaid each. The original cell is the parent cell that divides to produce the four new daughter cells. The new cells are called haploids which means that they have one set of chromosomes whereas the parent cell is a diploid and has two, one from each parent. One important part is cytokenesis which makes sure that I have a nucleus in each new daughter cell.…

Telophase/cytokinesis occurs when there is no longer a mother/father pair together, After the completion of meiosis I, the cells are no longer diploid cells, but rather haploid cells. Meiosis II also has four phases including prophase II, metaphase II, anaphase II, and telophase II/ cytokinesis. Prophase II occurs when spindle fibers reform and attach to the centromeres. Metaphase II consist of the chromosomes lining up to prepare for the division of centromeres in the next phase.…

The results in this lab for Interphase had twenty cells, Prophase had ten cells, Metaphase had three cells, Anaphase has two and last Telophase, which had only one cell. The results shows that Interphase took the longest for completion and Prophase was the second longest for completion. Telophase took the shortest time for completion. The percentages for each mitosis stage and Interphase was fifty-six percent for Interphase, twenty-eight percent for Prophase, eight percent for Metaphase, six percent for Anaphase and three percent for Telophase because interphase takes a lot more time and time just shortens while going through these phases. This is important because it shows that Interphase is the most abundant and important part of the cell…

After interphase, chromatin in the nucleus starts to contract in the phase known as prophase. Centrioles start moving to polar ends of the cell and fibrous extensions form from the centromeres, some of which will traverse the cell and will constitute the mitotic spindle. Immediately after prophase and prior to metaphase, the cell’s membrane disbands and proteins begin to latch onto the centromeres. This forms the basis for the kinetochores. Microtubules begin to attach at the kinetochores and…
