Every weekend Gatsby throws a colossal party at his mansion. He has one of the biggest estates in West Egg and is one of the richest people in New York. People all over town know the name Jay Gatsby because of his massive parties and wealth. Before one of Gatsby 's parties, Nick narrates, "I was one of the few guests who had actually been invited. People were not invited–they went there. They got into automobiles, which bore them out to Long Island, and somehow they ended up at Gatsby 's door" (41). The parties that Gatsby throws are very exquisite. Thousands of people come from all over New York to Gatsby 's house, but they are not invited. People do not need to see an invitation to know that Gatsby is throwing a party; people just simply know. Everyone knows Gatsby. His parties make it seem as if Gatsby is very popular and sociable. Although Gatsby is viewed like some sort of celebrity, he does not have any true connections with anyone. Everyone seems to know the name Gatsby and everyone definitely knows about Gatsby 's parties, but no one truly knows who Gatsby is and no one can say that Gatsby is a friend. Unfortunately, everything is not how it appears. Gatsby made his wealth illegally through bootlegging and he appears to have many friends, but he possesses no true relationships. I believe that Gatsby is very insecure about who he is and he hides his insecurity behind his wealth and his parties. He throws money in people 's faces so others cannot find out about how insecure he really is. This can all be related to the presidential race that is occurring now. Instead of hiding behind money, the republicans hide behind their insults. When they are asked a question they do not know the answer to, they begin to insult one another. They try to trick Americans into believing every other candidate, expect for themselves, is flawed. Similarly, Gatsby 's lies deceive people into thinking he is a god-like figure, but his wealth and ambitions were all an obstacle in his life and in the end of everything, he has
