What is a cultural phenomenon? A cultural phenomenon also known as a bandwagon effect occurs when certain individuals behave or mimic ways merely because of an influential individual acts or promotes a trend. This can occur when something or someone gains popularity from as far as a musical artist to a clothing style. The physical trend is not considered a cultural phenomenon however the process of how it became popular is considered so. For example, the Kardashians; who are they and what are they actually known for? It is a family of Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Rob Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner who are well off with each of their individual successes and always seem …show more content…
They share the same qualities of almost living the perfect Barbie doll lifestyle with popularity and money as their successors or properties that benefit from being famous. Thinking about it, how did the Kardashians become so popular? Most would say Kim’s sex tape or maybe even the famous falling out with her ex-best friend Paris Hilton but that is not entirely true; they were actually born into wealth being in the exclusive one percent club but have worked their way into fame starting with the show “keeping up with the Kardashians” which is currently on their eleventh season. But why are they so famous? Looking at society, we accept those famous individuals into our life and merely look up to them for either their looks, talent or how famous they are and that is exactly what we have done to make the Kardashians a significant part of society. Just look around, they come up in our daily topics, are always on social media and have been idolized for their butts and makeup which because of them we are now making these qualities apart of our society. In order to understand their success, we have to evaluate the whole story. In 1978, Robert Kardashian married Kris Jenner. If you do not know who Robert Kardashian is, he was the key figure on the defense team for OJ Simpson during his murder trial of his wife, even though Robert was a part of the exclusive one percent wealth club this did not peak their rise to fame. Robert and Kris got divorced in 1991, before this ironic trial took place and Kris remarried Bruce Jenner, the famous Olympic athlete. That was when the start of the famous reality television show “Keeping up with the Kardashians” in 2007 rose. During their rise to stardom, Kim was allegedly Paris Hilton’s personal assistant and best friend but nothing good last forever; for they had a falling out that magazines and E! entertainment ate up and is now considered legendary. On top of this, Kourtney, Khloe and Kim helped their mother start up their own clothing store called DASH however this still this did not peak their rise but it did help their profiles. Besides their television show starting to rise, Kim had another debut that year to help the family name, her sex tape with famous Ray J. and for some reason nobody could stop talking about this juicy gossip.
