Dursley, and positive when with Professor McGonagall. The tabby cat and owls do not have a positive relationship with the human character Vernon. These animals express the mysteries and the supernatural the Dursley family is trying very hard to avoid. It symbolizes everything they hate and goes against their normal lifestyle. These relationships are important to the story because they foreshadow the supernatural that is about to intrude into the Dursley lifestyle and change their lives. The relationship between the cat and McGonagall are positive. This relationship is an abnormal relationship because they are one and the same. The cat may symbolize parts of her personality and person such as supernatural abilities, her mysterious nature, intelligence, and watchfulness. Vernon takes the letter away from him and, after reading; he has Petunia read it. They decide it be best they ignore the letter. Afterwards, Vernon visits Harry in his cupboard and tells him he is moving upstairs to Dudley’s second bedroom. The next several days, Harry continues receiving letters, but Vernon always confiscates them from him before he has a chance to read them. Vernon decided to nail up the mail slot and even boarded up all the cracks around the front and back doors. Finally, it got to the point where Vernon decided they were going to go away for a while. However, they continue receiving the letters, even at the motel they were temporarily staying at. They finally stayed at a cabin only accessible by way of boat.
