CHAPTER ONE
THE PROBLEM
Introduction
The American workforce is in great need of skilled workers. As this need continues to grow, more educatated Americans will be needed t fill the gap. Many students are choosing to attend two-year community colleges and technical colleges to gain the skills needed for many of the jobs of today. The labor markets seek workers today that were needed ten years ago. It is expected that in less than ten years workers in America will need some form of formal education. Georgia is one of the states preparing for the need.
Choosing to make a difference in the lives of Georgians, Governor Nathan Deal has signed on to be a part of Complete College America. The University System of Georgia and the Technical College System of Georgia teamed up to create its assembly called Complete College Georgia. Complete College Georgia has been a hot topic of discussion, and plans have been implemented for student success. “The overall plan is to increase college completion by adding 250,000 individuals to normally expected graduate numbers” (TCSG, 2012).
The ever-changing needs of today’s college students must be met, and the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) is one of the entities that is bridging the gap between students who attend technical colleges and move forward to four-year colleges. Students are transitioning into the workforce sooner. Research has shown the more education a person has, the more likely he/she will make a higher salary. More…
