We must not rely on the world to provide our meaning and way of thought; we often must form our own ideas and persons. We must form our own characters in addition to being shaped by the world. Those that form their own characters in and persons are the ones who shape the world around them. If everyone expected to find his/her self and meaning in the world, we would never have the radical innovations and philosophies that have changed the world forever. If Martin Luther had simply adopted the beliefs held at the time and refrained from forming beliefs of his own, he would never have formed his own views and with those views an entire religious movement that changed the world forever. It is those people, Luther and the other innovators, who through forming themselves change the world forever. These world changers show us why both forms of self-discovery are important. We must find meaning in the world and adapt it into our own individual characters. Through this amalgamation of our own thought and the thoughts of others, we can create new and greater forms of thinking and inventions, and a new and greater world and lives for those that follow us. We create the foundation of our children’s futures, so we must show them how to take our thoughts and through their own ideas, make the world
