Schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder that affects about 26 million people around the world(S.Nowak 2016).Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that affects the two areas of the frontal lobes and a minor area of the hippocampus this causes the persons affected by the disease to experience hallucinations. These hallucinations may range in severity, which may include seeing people who are not there to hearing voices(S. Nowak 2016). Schizophrenia usually begins during the start of pubescence and is associated with the change in hormones in these people(D.Kimhy 2016). Typically this disease shows trends of recurrence in familial lines, which shows a strong indication that genetics plays a huge role in the afflicted(D.Kimhy 2016). One type of Schizophrenia is paranoid schizophrenia in which the patient has misconceptions of what’s reality and what is false in the world and feel like their are many that are out to get them. There are a variety of therapy treatments that can treat Paranoid Schizophrenia. One therapy treatment I will be focusing on is Cognitive Behavioral therapy. Paranoid schizophrenia can also be treated by using medication, but that has negative side effects on patients. A major debate in psychology is whether or not anti psychotics drugs are appropriate to prescribe to patients who suffer from paranoid schizophrenia.
