At one of the visits Mademoiselle mentions to Edna that Robert had written to her. After finding out that Robert had written to Mademoissle instead of her made her jealous. At first, Mademoiselle was not going to let Edna read the letter but after lots of begging she finally gave it to Edna to read. In the letter Robert was asking all about Mrs. Pontellier. During another visit Mademoiselle tells Edna Robert is coming back but she isn’t sure when he is coming. After finding out the news that Robert was coming back Edna completely changed her mood and was back to her normal ways which was happy. After they get to talking Robert tells Edna that he has been home two days which upsets her that he hadn’t visited her yet. Edna has Robert walk her how and once they arrived she invited him to stay for supper. Robert at first tried coming up with excuses for not staying but eventually gives in to her. After Robert leaves they don’t see each other for several days until one day when they ran into each other at a café! Again, Robert walks Edna home and instead of Edna having to invite him to stay he stayed without her asking. While they were sitting at her house talking Edna gets up and kisses Robert. Robert then grabbed Edna tight and just held her for a moment. Finally after letting go Robert tells her that the reason he has been trying to distance himself from her is because she isn’t available, she is a married woman. Edna tells Robert that she is free and is nobodies property and that he is who she wants to be with. They both then confess their love for each other. Alcee Arobin comes over to deliver the message from Madame Ratignolle that she is sick and needs her to visit. Robert begs her not to leave but Edna feels that she has to, while leaving she begs Robert to wait for
