While Yuniors dad is in the Unites Sates working to get his family money and stability he meets another women which he marries and lives with her for many years. They have a baby and he wins citizenship by marrying her. Here we see that both money and immigration is a driven force. Yuniors dad has the wrong intentions of working in the United States. At no point is he thinking of his family while he is living with Nilda. But as time pass he remembers his family and tells Nilda that he is going to return to his family. Of course she isn’t content with what he is saying but he comes back home to his family. When he arrives his family isn’t the first people he goes to see. He prefers to have a drink with his friends first before going to see his family. He is afraid he might not be welcomed in that house hold. “In the end he never visited us. Mami herd from her friend that he was in the city with his other wife, but she never told us about it” (Diaz) Yunior explained. He said it took his father a couple days to come visit them and when he did it felt like he was out of place being there. No one saw him as a father figure since he had been gone for such a long time and since he had married another women. Here we see that yunior dad has only been thinking of himself. We see how money is always the most important in a household and your only way to gain it is to follow the American dream and coming to the United States. In this story we see how the dream is there but it is accomplished in a different way. Yuniors dad abandons them for the first time in Dominican Republic and he does it again in America. He gains money and stability but that isn’t enough because he leaves his family once
