He quit his high-tanking position in the Boy Scouts of America because they decided they were no longer going to accept openly gay scout leaders to participate. He then donated $100,000 to the program proposition 8, whose aim was to defeat the ban on gay marriage in California he stated “By writing discrimination into our state constitution, Proposition 8 seeks to eliminate the right of each and every citizen in our state to marry regardless of sexual orientation. Such discrimination has NO place in California’s constitution, or any other.” ( Kenshaw, 2012)
