Findings and Interpretations
Throughout our research, I have discovered that our hypotheses was correct. I found that the pilot workers spent more time with the families than the nonpilot. I also found that the pilot works spent less time on paperwork and FACES. The purpose of the pilot project was to have workers spend more time directly with the families rather than spending most of their time doing paperwork and narratives. …show more content…
However, due to all of the paperwork and administrative duties that child welfare workers often have, direct care often gets less attention. As this study shows, the nonpilot workers spent a large amount of time doing administrative work and less direct care work. With the pilot workers, time spent on direct care had increased. With this study, I think that it will show the unfortunate reality that direct care is not given as much time by workers as it should …show more content…
As mentioned earlier, direct care is important and often gets put aside due to the mass amount of administrative work that has to be done. I could see a change in policy requiring child welfare workers to spend more time directly with families. However, this would also be a rough change as workers only have so much time in a day and this could cause an interference with the administrative work due to the large amount that has to be done.
As mentioned before, one of the weaknesses for this research project was the data reguarding the nonpilot workers. These are the workers who are currently serving in the child welfare field and are following current protocols. It would have been beneficial to know how much time they actually spent on administrative and direct care activities. Also if this project were to be expanded or done again in the future, it would likely be beneficial to measure if the services given were beneficial. This could be measured by follow-up surveys.
Overall, this research project proved to be valuable. While there were weaknesses, there were still strengths throughout the project. No research project can be perfect and there are bound to be weaknesses. This project could help shape the future of child welfare workers and direct
